Don’t toss your pumpkins! Do this instead: donate to a local farm, especially a farm with pigs or chickens. It’s the perfect way to keep food waste out of the landfill and put it to good use as food for livestock.

Think of how much unnecessary food waste could be saved if every fall pumpkin and gourd landed on a local farm instead of in a landfill!
🤯♻️

🤓 Fun fact: farming folklore holds that pumpkin seeds can act as natural dewormers for livestock. I haven’t researched this enough to determine if it’s true, but I’d love to hear if you have anecdotal (or scientific) evidence to share.

If you live in northern VA, we’d love to accept your unwanted pumpkins. Otherwise, please find a nearby farm (especially a farm with pigs).

Please share to help spread the word and save more pumpkins from the landfill! 🎃♻️

Have you made the switch? I’m gradually shifti Have you made the switch?

I’m gradually shifting my entire wardrobe away from synthetics and over to natural fibers like linen, wool, and organic cotton.

My favorite organic cotton base layers? Fair Indigo!

I LOVE their tanks, tees, and scoop-neck long sleeved tees. The striped sweaters shown here are a favorite base layer for jazzing up a casual outfit.

I also love their alpaca scarves and 100% organic cotton leggings with pockets! And the long sleeve button downs are perfect for adding (unbuttoned) under an open cardigan as an extra layer of warmth as we head into chillier weather.

Plus: Not only is organic cotton better for my skin and for the planet, a fun surprise is how SOFT and strong it feels. Perfect for those layers worn closest to the skin.

I’m hooked! 😍👏🏻🤩

Ready to make the switch? Comment COTTON for a link and coupon code!

We did a thing. We gave into a request to keep the We did a thing. We gave into a request to keep the piano on the main floor of our house.

Before, it lived in a room nearby, with a door to close off the sound if necessary. Our big renovation project gave us a new music studio in the basement, and we planned to move the piano to that space.

However, there were two slight problems:
1) we really do enjoy hearing the piano, and I was sad to think about sending it to the basement. Most of my day is spent on the main level of our house and I knew I would miss the piano music.
2) our piano player is a social creature who thrives on sharing his music with others. He also was sad about banishing the piano to the basement.

During the renovations, the piano was moved to the great room of our house. From time to time, when the piano was accessible, he would go over to the house (we lived elsewhere during the renovations), pull up the bench, and fill the house with music. The acoustics in our great room with the vaulted ceilings are pretty phenomenal.

Every time he played the piano in the great room, he would say “I wish we could keep the piano here.” I finally recognized a deep heart desire and we began to brainstorm ways to keep the piano on the main level.

We actually have big plans to place a bigger and better piano in another open space in our home, but it will be a long while before we are able to execute that plan. In the meantime, our little mid-century piano now occupies the space right inside our front door, adjacent to the kitchen and living room, with the ability to fill the entire house with music.

I never would have chosen this arrangement. It required the removal of a vintage piece of furniture that I love a lot and will miss (currently in storage). I am nervous that the piano will become cluttered with the boys’ many piano books, chord sheets, and lesson binders.

But the trade-off is already so worth it. I am confident this child will never forget the way we worked out a solution to his soul-deep longing. And every time he fills the house with music, I treasure it up in my heart.

Continued in comments…
Let’s not hurry our lives away for the sake of “convenience” at the expense of joy in the everyday mundane. Life consists of the many small moments and choices we make along the way. Make it count. 🤎
