How our Goat Milk Herd Share Works

In order to sell raw milk in the state of Virginia, we must operate a herd share program.

How does a herd share work for you, the customer?

Joining a herd share involves a four-part process:

  1. You sign two documents: Milk Bill of Sale and Milk Agistment Agreement.
  2. You buy into our Roots & Boots goat herd for a $50 one-time cost.
  3. You pay a $10 one-time deposit on a set of two jars and two lids.
  4. You pay a recurring $40 monthly fee to Roots & Boots for care of the herd, including daily milking. As part owner of the herd, you receive a share of milk.
