Chicken pot pie is a family favorite and this version is grain-free and dairy-free. Plus, it’s also a great way to use up leftover turkey.

My new favorite trick is to use our homegrown freeze-dried broccoli in the pot pie filling. It still amazes me that I can store “fresh” garden produce in a jar on the shelf. No canning, no freezing.

i’ll admit that rehydrating freeze dried broccoli has a learning curve. The florets rehydrate much better than thick stalks. I’ve had the best results with small, chopped pieces of broccoli.

However, I have also freeze dried larger florets with stalks. The trick is to allow plenty of time for rehydrating, about 30 to 60 minutes, in room temperature water.

I’ve been making my own marshmallows for years, and have always wondered how I could store them long-term. Fresh marshmallows are delicious, but they last only so long.

You’d better believe this was near the top of my list of foods to try in my freeze dryer. It works like a dream!

If you’re local and looking for a pasture-raised bird to grace your Thanksgiving table, we do have a few left. They will be processed on Monday and ready for pickup Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

When my first child was very young, a generous fam

When my first child was very young, a generous family member offered to pay for him to attend preschool. I considered the offer, contemplating the alluring idea of receiving a break from the all-consuming demands of motherhood.

But then it struck me: this was my opportunity to decide for or against time with my child. I realized very clearly that for me, choosing to send my young child away on a regular basis would be setting a precedent in my heart. I knew I had to draw a line in the sand and declare that the best place for my young child was with me, at home.

Was I ever away from him? Of course! Once a week, my husband and I went out for a date night while a babysitter cared for our son. Every Sunday he stayed in the church nursery. And there were other occasions when I was away from him.

We also enjoyed frequent play dates and excursions with friends that, let’s be honest, were more for the moms than for the kids.

Yes, motherhood is HARD. Yes, the hours are long and often unrewarding, especially when children are young. But the answer is not to send our kids away so we can have a break. The solution is to lean in, stay the course, and love well. 💕
