READ THIS👇🏻

I struggled to grow squash for years. Between the squash bugs, cucumber beetles, and squash vine borers, it felt like such a losing battle.

But then I finally cracked the code, and started growing an amazing harvest of squash every year. Sweet victory!

Here are my biggest tips:
1. Even if you do have squash bugs, I’m betting it’s vine borers that kill your plants. Many folks, especially new gardeners, claim that squash bugs are killing their plants when it’s actually vine borers. Squash bugs are easier to see, so they get blamed. Borers can be difficult to identify until it’s too late.
2. The only (nontoxic) way to prevent borers is to use row cover. Crop rotation can also help but isn’t enough on its own.
3. Try growing borer-resistant varieties like Rampincante and Tahitian melon squash, both pictured in this reel. Young Rampincante can be used like summer squash. Tahitian melon squash is related to butternut; it’s my favorite!
